Access to information is a social justice issue
We strive to ensure all people– regardless of age, education, ethnicity, gender, language, income, physical limitations or geographic barriers– have access to relevant, reliable, and credible information.
By creating unconventional avenues to access technology and learning, we meet people where they are and allow them to decide which information best meets their needs and interests.
Ideal candidates are creative thinkers with strong attention to detail, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time. They must be curious, organized, eager to learn new skills, flexible, forward-thinking, and Bay Area local.
The Project Coordinator will work closely with the Libraries Without Borders US team in Washington, DC and across the US to coordinate the design and implementation for educational programming in laundromats, community centers, and public spaces in the Bay Area. This will include working with library branches and librarians, community-based organizations, small business owners, government representatives, and local residents to identify needs and interests of the community and to offer relevant programming. This project will include a special emphasis on health literacy/learning through a holistic approach in Oakland, California, with possible opportunities for later collaborations statewide.
The Project Associate will work closely with the owner of Beautiful Laundrette (BL) and the Libraries Without Borders team in Washington, DC and Saint Paul to coordinate programming for the Wash and Learn Initiative at Beautiful Laundrette. This will include working with library branches and librarians, community-based organizations, Westside residents and other key stakeholders to identify needs and interests of the Westside community, which will inform what type of programming is offered at BL.
